‘Handlooms and handicrafts of Odisha in Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali’ by K.J.S.Chatrath

utkalika

I happened to go to the Lajpat Bhawan in Chandigarh yesterday. I saw a couple of huge stone statues in the premises and an artisan patiently working on a statue. I went and talked to him in Odia, a language I am proud to know a bit. I learnt that Utkalika, the Odisha State Co-Op Handicrafts Corporation of Government of Odisha (http://www.utkalika.co.in/ViewPanel/Home.aspx#3) was holding a handlooms and handicrafts fair in the premises. Incidentally I had seen the work of this Corporation when I was Secretary Handlooms & Handicrafts of Odisha Government years back.

I would strongly suggest to all my friends staying in Chandigarh, Panchkula & Mohali to visit this exhibition. It is an excellent way of knowing more about the culture of Odisha.

Incidentally October to January are the best months for visiting Odisha. Do make a programme, if you have not visited Odisha as yet.
