With the beating of Spain by the Chilean football team yesterday, it is in order to begin this article by talking a little about Chile-the country and its people before coming to the town of Punta Arenas (Tiera Del Fuego). One peculiarity of Chile is its geographical formation. It looks like a lon line on the map. It has a population of 17.46 million and an impressive life expectancy of 79.2 years.
Construction of this stadium began in February 1937 and the stadium was inaugurated on December 3, 1938. The architecture was based on the Olympia stadion in Berlin, Germany. The stadium was one of the venues for the FIFA World Cup in 1962, and hosted the final where Brazil defeated Czechoslovakia 3-1. It was renovated extensively in 2009.
Her Excellency Ms. Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria is the President of Chile since 11 March 2014. She previously served as President from 2006–2010, becoming the first woman in her country to do so. After leaving the presidency, she was appointed the first executive director of the newly created United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). She is a medical doctor by training.
